Dr. Jefferson Prince is an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, the Director of Child Psychiatry for North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts, and a Staff Member at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed his residencies in Psychiatry and Acute Psychiatry Service at Massachusetts General Hospital. Subsequently, he completed his Clinical Fellowship in Child Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospitals in Boston. Dr. Prince is board certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. A member of the APA, AACAP and AMA, Dr Prince is also the recipient of many awards and honors including the distinction of Laughlin Fellow for the American College of Psychiatrists. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 original articles, abstracts and book chapters, and he has made more than 100 academic and non-academic presentations nationally and internationally.

1. The Grant Writing Process: For Beginners - Karen Burnett-Kurie, Funds & Grant Manager,  Essex County Community Foundation and Debbie Hilbert ECCF Grants Management Committee. Learn the basics of grant writing from concept and project development through the writing and reporting process.  Evaluation planning and thorough research of potential funders will be emphasized.

*2. Growing Through Connection, Belonging and Community for Young Adults - Marianne Vesey, LICSW and Greg Healy, LICSW, DMH; Joseph Yarid, LICSW, FCP; Jessell Paul Smith, M-Power; Carl Blackmon, Lindsey Judge and Ashli Pothier, Young Adult Leadership. This workshop will discuss how providers can work collaboratively in developing a "community focused" treatment modality for Young Adults.

*3. Juvenile Court: Navigating the System - Dan Passacantilli, Chief Essex County Juvenile Probation and Kris Latour Kennedy, LICSW-Director, Essex County Juvenile Court Clinic . This workshop will provide an introduction to the juvenile court with particular focus on the roles of probation and the court clinic.

*4. Leaders In Action - Michael D. Maginn, Ed.D. Singularity Group, Inc. Participants will view and discuss different examples of leaders in action as a means of defining leadership behavior. Participants will assess their own leadership behaviors, reflect and develop clear personal statements of leadership values and vision.

*5. Connecting Teens to Employment/Training Opportunities and Programs - Shari Cornett, Youth Services Coordinator, North Shore Workforce  Investment Board and Donna Condon, Youth Career Center Coordinator,  Coordinator, North Shore Career Centers. Information about local employment and training resources for teens, including summer employment programs.

*6. Stop Bullying Before It Starts: A Kids-to-Kids Prevention Project - Stephanie Scalese, Juvenile Justice Programs Manager, and Kate Keyes, Special Projects Coordinator, Essex DA's Office. A Kids-to-Kids Prevention Project was developed to raise awareness of the criminal implications of bullying and the need to take this problem seriously.

*7. Teen Suicide Prevention - Liz Witkow, The Samaritans of Boston. This workshop will provide participants with the facts about why the rate of youth suicide is so high, what the warning signs and feelings associated with suicide are, and discuss suicide in a safe environment.

*8. Youth Addictions - Kathy Guevara, LICSW, LADC I, Director of Outpatient Services, CAB Health and Recovery Services. This workshop will examine the concepts of Motivation Enhancement Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, including five interventions for adolescents.

9. Education Law and CHINS: What Youth Workers Should Know - Mike James, Staff Attorney; Robyn Laukien, Staff Attorney and Alexandra Echnadi, Acting Pro Bono Manager, Children's Law Center of Massachusetts.  This workshop will cover recent developments in CHINS (Child in Need of Services) and education law. A question and answer period will follow to allow in depth discussion of specific  issues pertinent to the attendees.

10. The New Face of DSS - Jerome Curley, Cape Ann Area Director, Jack Doyle, Lynn Area Director, and Mark Libon, VP, HES (lead agency for Lynn & Cape Ann Area Offices). An examination of recent and planned initiatives by DSS.  We will explore changes brought on by Family Networks, Adolescent Breakthrough Series, Working with Families Right from the Start, as well as other initiatives that impact relations with the community and the families we share.
